Events in Barcelona – August 2016

Circuit Festival has become one of the most important gay summer events and attracts thousands of visitors, who get to enjoy the beautiful beaches and fun atmosphere. Festa Major de Gracia
When: Monday 15th to Sunday 21th of August
Where: Gracia neighborhood
Gracia’s festival is by many considered the best one in Barcelona. This local colorful fiesta fills many streets and squares in the charming area. Unlike to other parts in Barcelona, Gracia still has a special village atmosphere because of its narrow streets. Click here for more information.
Festa Major de Sant Roc
When: Tuesday 16th of August
Where: Various venues around Plaça Nova and Barri Gòtic
People have been celebrating Festa Major de Sant Roc since 1589, which makes it the oldest festival of Barcelona. You will still be able to see the Catalan traditions like they used to do it, for example the drinking contest where people drink wine from the huge typical carafe. ‘’Glops amb el Porró Llarg’’ Parades will fill the streets with dressed up people dancing. Also, the festivity includes street games, human tower buildings, correfoc and fireworks.
Festa Major de Sants
When: Last week of August
Where: All over Sants
Festa Major de Sants is one of the lesser-known neighborhood festivals. Nevertheless, with its traditional flavor and decorations along the street, it is worth going. Last year bands were playing at their ‘Alternative party’ and ‘Bordeta party’ for 10 days in total. Mayor events are held at Parc de l’Espanya Industrial, Correfoc and Placa de la Farga. Throughout this event, several films will be screened against the CCCB building. In order to get a place to sit you should go early since it can get very crowded.
Music in the Parks
When: From the last week of June until the end of August
Where: Parks in Barcelona
With the aim of bringing high quality music for everyone, ten years ago, ‘Music in the Parks’ was born. The summer concerts in green spaces of Barcelona are free and for everyone who wants to have a good time. The festival features around 20 concerts of different styles like classical, jazz, local bands etc.. Popular parks are Ciutadella Park, l’Estacio del Nord Park, Barceloneta Park, Turo Park, Park de les Aigues del Guinardó and many more.
San Miguel Mas i Mas Festival
When: Thursday 28th of July to Thursday 1st September – Still to be Confirmed
Where: Various Venues
The festival of San Miguel completes the summer of Barcelona. It all started with Latin sounds but has now broadened to offer a little bit of everything: from classical music to flamenco, from R&B to Jazz or Electronic. During the hottest month of the year, a wide variety of concerts with good music fills small venues like ‘Jamboree’ or ‘Tarantos’, with both locals and tourists attending. There will also be some bigger stages like the opening party on the 28th of July and closing party on the 1st of September, which will be held at the ‘Palau de la Musica Catalana’.
